How to patch
VisualBoyAdvance supports a feature called soft patching. This allows you to simply rename the ROM to match the patch name (or vice versa). This method is explained at The World of Rijon.
This guide describes the method of hard patching, which applies the patch to a ROM permanently. Ensure that you make backups of the ROM you're patching.
What you'll need
- A Pokémon FireRed (U) ROM.
The FireRed ROM cannot be of any other language version. - An IPS patching program.
Don't have one? Download Lunar IPS (Windows) or UIPS (Mac). - The rijonAdventures patch.
The most recent version can be downloaded here.
Hard patching guide
It's actually quite straightforward to patch a game. This guide shows a step-by-step walkthrough using screenshots of Lunar IPS. The World of Rijon provides instructions with screenshots using UIPS on the Mac here.
