Guides - Error codes

There are hacks that follow a simple, 5-digit numerical code-based system for identifying errors and providing solutions to these errors. The tables below indicate common error codes that you may encounter whsile playing the game. They also cover errors that can be resolved in a normal Pokémon game - these game do not display error codes, but the errors may be relevant.

If you need assistance, search for error codes by pressing Ctrl+F (or Command+F for Mac users) and typing the error code.

This sample shows Error Code 00006.

The error code in this screenshot shows the error number, a brief, single-line description of the error, and a paragraph displaying the issue or effects. It then provides a link to further information. This screenshot shows an error code which will be in the final version of rijonAdventures.

Hack error codes

Error code Problem and affected games Solution

00001

The game cannot identify backup memory that supports Flash 128K. This error affects hacks based off Pokémon FireRed, LeafGreen and Emerald.

  • Distributed copies of games on physical cartridges may not support Flash 128K. If this is the case, the cartridge should be returned to the reseller.
  • Users of devices such as M3 should ensure that their save memory is set to use 128K memory. If the device does not support these functions, a different, more recent device may be necessary.
  • ROM users who use VisualBoyAdvance to play a hack should go to the "Options" menu, select "Emulator", select "Save Type" and tick "Flash 128K".

00002

The game cannot read the save data and the save file has been discarded. Affects all Pokémon Game Boy Advance games.

ROM users who use VisualBoyAdvance to play a hack should go to the "Options" menu, select "Emulator", select "Save Type" and ensure that:

  • Save type is set to "Automatic".
  • Flash memory type is set to "Flash 128K".

The Flash cartridge may need to be exchanged if it discards data easily. Some Pokémon games may require patching before they are compatible with Flash cartridges.

00003

Unable to save the game. May affect all Pokémon Game Boy Advance games. Ruby and Sapphire attempt to save to backup memory but do not respond after. Emerald does not load at all.

Refer to code 00002.

00004

Real time clock battery not detected or the battery has run dry. Affects Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald.

ROM users who use VisualBoyAdvance to play a hack should go to the "Options" menu, select "Emulator", and ensure that "Real Time Clock" is enabled.

Users with a device that relies on Flash cartridges may need to replace the battery in the flash cartridge.

00005

Communication error when using a Link Cable or using a Wireless Adapter.

Ensure that, if you're using Game Boy Advance Link Cable, that it is connected properly. If using Emerald, the National Pokédex is required before transfer to FireRed and LeafGreen is enabled.

If this occurs when you enter a Union Room or access any wireless functions, ensure a wireless adapter is connected to your Game Boy Advance or Game Boy Advance SP, or that the wireless adapter for the Game Boy Micro is connected. Wireless functions are not supported if you are using emulation (on normal versions of VisualBoyAdvance) or through the use of a Nintendo DS.

00006

The main save file has been corrupted. Previous save data has been loaded. Affects all Pokémon Advance games.

Ensure that the save options are set to the options as shown for code 00001. Remove the save data for the appropriate ROM and create a new file.
